David Webster escapes from prison after 15 years, having been framed by Fletcher Burton, a prominent businessman. He hides out with Li Fang, a Chinese politician and former friend of Webster's. In order to move about the city undetected, he disguises himself as a cripple, dragging himself about on a pair of crutches. At a local mission, he meets his daughter, a young girl known as "The Angel Lady" because of her many kindly deeds and good works. She befriends the cripple, unaware of his identity, and the two play songs together, he on violin and the girl on piano.

1925 directed by Wilfred Noy starring Lila Lee, Gareth Hughes, Dolores Cassinelli and Bela Lugosi. A shady opera patron, (Lugosi), is in love with the same woman as his stepson.

A man is held captive by island natives who believe that his daughter has stolen a pearl belonging to their idol. This is a five reel truncated 1922 Realart print of the Houdini mystery missing a large chunk from the middle of this originally seven reel production.

A Silent film based upon the Broadway play by Mary Roberts Rinehart and Avery Hopwood, this Silent Gem was directed by Roland West in 1926, later being Remade as the Bat Whispers in 1930 (by Roland West) and again in 1958 in the Bat starring Vincent Price, also available at the Archive. Oh, and when I say silent, I mean silent - this was transferred from a 16mm print and was probably meant to be played with live musical accompaniment.

This is what audiences saw on September 6,1925 at the Astor Theater in New York City. This version is seldom seen and contains materiel that is different from the 1929 re-release. This print is from The Milestone Edition, the score is Mozart's 40th and 4th symphonies and Franz Schubert's Symphony No. 8 in B minor. Directed by Rupert Julian, Edward Sedgwick and Lon Chaney.
