It's the Great Depression, and Porky steers clear of the banks. Lured by a get-rich-quick sales pitch, Porky and his partner, Gabby Goat, buy an "oil rich" city lot from slick weasel Honest John. (A sign on the lot reads: "Get Rich Quick/For Sale/This Lovely Lot/Containing Lots and Lots/Oh!...Just Oodles of/Oil!") Porky and Gabby dig for oil, and a stray dog digs for bones. When Porky discovers that the pitch was a scam, and is about to give the deed back in exchange for a refund, Gabby, who has been drilling for oil, hits a gusher. Porky must fight to get the now-valuable deed.

Bosko, an officer of the mounted police, gets assigned the job of bringing in a wanted criminal. He must face the harsh winter weather to bring him in. Traveling to the local saloon in search of the criminal, he starts playing the piano, which ends up seeming like a much better idea to him. However, he soon gets back hot on the trail. In this pre-Code cartoon, the criminal gets a sword up his behind (ouch!) and ends up running out of the saloon buck-naked. Snow is depicted "falling" from the background of the opening titles.

An early Porky war cartoon, with Porky as a doughboy in World War I. This one also has Beans, an early character who was in a few shorts, but didn't pan out as well as they probably wanted him to at Termite Terrace. Decent cartoon, moves fairly fast with very good animation.

Bosko the Doughboy is a one-reel 1931 short subject animated cartoon, part of the Bosko series. It was directed by Hugh Harman, and first released on October 17, 1931 as part of the Looney Tunes series from the Leon Schlesinger animation studio and distributed by Warner Brothers. Trivia This cartoon (along with other "Hook" cartoons) was found by accident in the garage of a former soldier who had saved them, thinking they were "Private Snafu" shorts. The cartoon was finally discovered in the mid-1990s when an A&E documentary on war cartoons began production. It turned out that Warners made these shorts for the US Navy and because they wanted to keep this a secret, all original negatives were destroyed shortly after release.
