clouds

There were some wonderful clouds moving through the sky the other day and I thought I would try something a little different. It didn't work out that great, and it turns out the clouds were moving much faster than I had anticipated. This is what the final product ended up being, and actually I am suprised at how nice it looks. It definitely is more abstract, but may make a nice background for someone or overlay.

The sun peeks out from behind a dark cloud.

I managed to capture this time lapse the other day on my quest to film what I call "Toy Story" clouds. While I believe I got the right conditions, the interval of 1 second between shots seemed too long considering how fast the clouds were moving. I plan on taking advantage of Magic Lantern's FPS override feature next time to try to get a much more slower, fluid, dreamy like movement. The only downside is that I will lose the RAW imaging flexibility I get from doing stills. We'll have to see how far my ND filters and polarizers can balance things.

Description: To me this is an abstract look at what it may be like to travel through a rainbow if it was something more than an optical illusion and refracted light.

I had my first chance to get another time lapse of the moon. My first one I did was with a 200mm Canon EOS lens I had borrowed from a friend. This one I did with my old Tokina Minolta mount 200mm lens, and the MD to EOS adapter. If you compare the two, you can see how much I have learned over the past few months. Here's to better quality videos for everyone!!!

Came across a beautifully silver sky the other day. The sun was coming through a patch of clouds to the right of this time lapse, projecting it's rays onto some of the others. I was quite pleased with this one. One of the challenges I gave to myself recently was to learn as much as I could about creating time lapse videos of clouds. You cannot imagine the wild variables you run into in this environment. I have learned a lot, and I hope some of you may be able to benefit from it. Hope this helps!

Dark clouds gather before the rain.

Notice the subtle color change as the storm develops. Its stuff like this that causes concern during tornado season. One time I saw the sky actually turn green. This, however, was only a shower.
